first train ii

Stephen's in the middle of lifting wreckage off a passenger when someone else to comes to his aid. And it takes Stephen a second to recognize him, because he's too busy grumbling to himself about how his magic is on the fritz and he'd be able to move heavy things and heal people so much easier if it was working-- and he's also got the better part of a metal rod sticking out of his shoulder, which doesn't help, but that's currently low on his priority list--

Recognition hits. Stephen crouches down next to the unconscious passenger, Cloak spreading on the floor, and says drolly, "Captain. How fortuitous you wound up on the same train."

Stephen would be surprised, except he has no idea what this is. Alternate dimension, different world, hallucination, extraordinarily vivid nightmare. It could be any of those. Perhaps Steve is some vital story theme taking human form, like his very own Virgil. (Probably not. But maybe!)

The unconscious passenger is bleeding from the head, so Stephen takes their tie off, bundles it up, and uses it as a makeshift staunch. His fingers are shaking more than usual. Annoying.

"Are you injured?" He glances up at Steve, assessing. "If you're not; how steady are your hands?"
